REGULAR MEETING         August 4 , 2008

 

 

 

The Regular Meeting of the Village Council was called to order by President Todd Nighswander at 7:00 p.m.

 

Trustees Present:   Connie Sieler, Kevin Eggleston, Charles Iott,

                               Dave Rogers & Franz Koch

               Absent:    Dean Witt

               Guests:     David Gano & Don Isley

              

Minutes of the Regular Meeting were read and approved.

 

Motion:  Iott to approve the Treasurer’s Report for July.

Village Supt. Hyder reported on a slurry seal project totaling $53,171.00 for street sealing several streets.  He also informed the Council that officials from MDOT would be doing a walk thru of the streetscape project on Tuesday, August 5th at 1:30 p.m.  New Playground Equipment has arrived with the exception of the standard for the baby swings which is expected to ship later this week.  The Filtration Plant has recently been inspected by the DEQ.  Supt. Hyder also showed the Council prints of the new addition to the Filtration Plant.  He also stated that mosquito spraying would be continuing on a weekly basis.

 There was no Building Inspection report.

 Police Report for June reviewed.

There was no July Planning Commission Meeting.

During Public Comment session, David Gano addressed the Council with his concern for the speed limit on County Line Road.  Trustee Iott offered to contact the Summerfield Township Supervisor as the road is in Monroe County and the Village of Deerfield has no jurisdiction.

He also expressed his desire to be excluded from the water system and have a well for drinking water.  Agreements had been signed before construction of the house to use the Village services for water and sewer.  The Village had responded to his request in March, 2008 and stated that we did not have a formula in place for sewer usage only.  Matter will be reviewed by Trustee Iott.

Council updated on the Qualifying letter received from the State of Michigan to allow the Village of Deerfield to sell bonds for the water plant improvements.

July overtime was reviewed and placed on file.

The next regular meeting of the Deerfield Village Council will be held on Monday, September 8, 2008 due to the Labor Day holiday.

Don Isley addressed the council and urged everyone to vote in the Primary Election on Tuesday, August 5, 2008.

         Village Clerk reminded the Council of the Election to be held on  November 4,    

          2008.  The following offices are up for election.          

    Village President Todd Nighswander   2 yr. term

    Trustees:  Dave Rogers, Franz Koch, Dean Witt    4 yr. terms

    Deadline for filing with Shirley Soldwish, Township Clerk is 4 p.m. Aug. 12, 2008

    The Township Clerk handles all documents pertaining to the Election.

The Regular Meeting of the Village Council was called to order by President Todd Nighswander at 7:00 p.m.

 

Trustees Present:   Connie Sieler, Kevin Eggleston, Charles Iott,

                               Dave Rogers & Dean Witt

               Absent:    Franz Koch

              

Minutes of the Regular Meeting were read and approved.

 

Minutes of the Special Meeting were read and approved.

 

Motion:  Iott to approve the Treasurer's Report for June.

2nd:   Sieler                                  Carried

There was no Village Supt. report.

Building Inspection report from Inspector Roger Roach for June activity reviewed and placed on file.

Motion:  Iott to adopt a fee schedule for Building Permits effective immediately.

2nd:  Rogers                                   Carried 

Police Report for May reviewed.

Due to lack of a quorum, there was no June Planning Commission Meeting. 

President Nighswander reported to the Council that new playground equipment had been ordered for the Village Park which includes a small play structure and a structure with two baby swings.

Report given on recent meeting with Sue Hammersmith, President of the Lenawee County Foundation.  Trustee Iott will pursue our community becoming a member. 

Streetscape update and timetable for selling bonds for the water plant improvements discussed.

June overtime was reviewed and placed on file.

Village Audit for fiscal year 2007-08 reviewed.

         Village Clerk reminded the Council of the Election to be held on  November 4, 2008.  The following offices are up for election.
